The Center is home to audiotape recordings of the stage and workshop performances at the Newport Folk Festivals 1963-1969. Many of these 300 7" and 10" open reel recordings are unique. They include performances by hundreds of American and international folk performers, including Pete Seeger, Skip James, Mississippi John Hurt, Maybelle Carter, Theordore Bikel, Spokes Mashiyane, Hobart Smith, The New Lost City Ramblers and others.
The Center’s collection also includes extensive field recordings of traditional performances by students and faculty. It is particularly strong in African American and Southern Appalachian music.
Because of funding reductions, the collection is not presently open to the public.
